Sticking to the classics is my motto, and apparently it proves to be true in makeup too.
Two coats Vanity, one coat Babydoll, has been my most recent Celisse combination. And Camisole on the toes. Painted while watching TV, or while working so that I can’t get up from my desk to pitter patter around. Today, they launched red (and apparently a few other colors like a shimmery pink, sheer, and a satin top coat). I by no means am being told to write this but am personally so excited I saved this spot specifically for it. I’ve been so impressed by Celisse; between the dry time (FAST) and the streak-less light colors (RARE), they’ve made me a real polish girl—something I’ve never really been for longer than give or take a week. It is not lost on me that I just wrote an entire post about not buying summer clothes in August; however, if you do have an opportunity coming up that requires a bathing suit, this is too good to pass up (top, bottom). And called “Lou Lou” — and even despite the difference in spelling, it really does feel very me.
While I don’t usually say “I was right.”
I was, in fact, right—but arguably so ahead of my time that nobody believed me (keep that in mind). I did, before writing that tweet, buy a pair of Keens and wear them. However, I could not do that now—not for me—but the Jasper sneakers have always been tempting. I like this new brown pair.
I was reminded of my Toast jeans after adding them to my fall “own” list—and reminded again, while looking at Rudy Jude jeans, as I do every year before going to Maine. Unlike most dark denim that is usually rigid (think APC, Buck Mason) this pair is very light (but doesn’t look it; I have a real distaste for thin denim). They have a little stretch too, but you wouldn’t know!
I usually wait a month or so before sharing any skincare recommendations, but I’ve been using this Counter Vitamin C serum for a few weeks now and have gotten comments about how nice my skin looks—and I haven’t done anything else. They say “immediate radiance” and usually, that is far from true, but they seem to be right.
One of the first makeup purchases I ever made was a NARS Orgasm blush stick. In typical 90s fashion, my mom swore by it; a little here, a little there. I’ve been loyal to my Rhode blush (Freckle) for the last year, but when NARS sent over the new liquid blush (Orgasm Fantasy), it occurred to me that it may just be a better Rhode. Sticking to the classics is my motto, and apparently it proves to be true in makeup too. (I’ve found that the NARS blush lasts significantly longer than the Rhode, and you get more bang for your buck.)
A few other things I'm enjoying:
I use the term “lip combo” lightly, as someone who has worn a full face foundation enough times to count on one hand. I’m currently obsessed with the Kulfi lip liner stain in Flames. It’s very natural. Topped with this Anfisa gloss in Berry Crumble or Finding Ferdinand in clay.
I wore these Spanx workout shorts under a slip skirt last weekend, and they were phenomenal. No exaggeration! Usually workout shorts have a band that can make things a little too light on top, but these were truly seamless (in typical Spanx fashion). I’m also trying out the underwear (apparently, this is something I write about…), potentially an upgrade from my Uniqlo in two styles (1, 2).
I watched all of these interviews with my dad over the weekend. We loved them. If only you could still get a place this incredible in Manhattan.
