Just Sent No.54
I'm a poplin pant girl now
Last year I got this dress in a red stripe. Y’all loved it so much it was actually—I’ll be brave and say it—one of the items that made me want to keep writing this Substack. This year, they made it in a blue French-inspired print. I find this dress fits very well and is easy to style and wear—another “fix it” piece that’s always good to have in the closet. They nicely sent it over knowing how much I like this style, so expect to see it soon!
I’ve been in two “phases” recently: bags and heels. It could be age, having more events, or just the realization that I like to wear a simple outfit regardless of the event, but I’ve been drawn to both more than usual. Rouje sent this over while there was still snow on the ground, and I brought on my trip down south; a raffia bag pairs well with humidity, we all know that. It also pairs really well with the red jellies, see below. (The heels I want are these.)
I’m wearing a Buck Mason tank top as I write this, so needless to say, I’ve liked their tops for a while. They just released their new “Toughknit,” made at their factory in Pennsylvania. I’m partial to the pocket tee and v-neck! True to size!
I saw this online the other night, and it instantly reminded me of a little plaid top my mom had in high school. And then, Juliana (who was featured last week!) posted it as a dress. So, I’m sold.
I don’t go swimming enough. Period. But I really don’t go swimming enough to justify buying more than a few swimsuits. Sigh! I came across this brand and added it to the list of reasons I need a pool. All the shapes look great, but this halter one a little different than what I already own. I like this bandeau and scoop cross body.
Welcome to the South!!! Nothing welcomes you home like mosquito bites on the porch. My great-aunt reminded me how much I enjoyed this a few days ago. And she’s right; it’s that good.
When I smelled this, I felt like I was in the English countryside. It’s musty, in a good way. The smell you hope for in a chintz-wallpapered bedroom in an old country house.
I’ve been a silent poplin pant skeptic for years. A distaste for sweatpants in public makes comfy pants, or anything similar, daunting territory. Donni sent over some pants, and while it was a real “Me? Really?” moment since I’ve been a parasocial fan for years, I knew this was my opportunity to end the skepticism. The timing was right, and they arrived right before heading out on a New York City to Atlanta road trip—a good test for a pant. I can say with full confidence that I’m a convert. I didn’t even change pants to go to dinner; that’s the real test. I got the brown poplin Pop Simple Pant (longer) and a stripe Pop Drawstring (ankle), both already worn with joy, and mentally packed for my next trip.

tank, shoes, purse, sunglasses
Now that I’m on the Donni train, I want the Pop Skirt and the Baby Ribbed Scallop Pant. I work from home, and travel a good amount, so unlike the swimsuits, I’m overflowing with reasons to buy comfortable—yet cute—pants.
A few things I’m enjoying:
My purse has three Finding Ferdinand balms in it: The Black Balm, Delicious Balm in Framboise Raspberry, and Barely There Sheer Lipstick in Cantabra Clay. Next on my list: Morphosis Lip Balm.
I haven’t stopped wearing the jellies. My next pair will be this florescent yellow!
True Botanicals is having a 30% off sale through Sunday. I use the vitamin c powder, face oil, and eye cream. The oil smells like a California spa.
The Westman Atelier concealer is worth it. It’s been a few months, and it’s warm now, so I can say with full confidence it’s the best I’ve tried. It looks incredibly natural—my mom, who hates makeup, didn’t event notice!
Tower28 is having a sitewide sale for 28% off. I use their mascara daily!
