Going from the city to upstate gives your body the same jolt as going from the sauna to the cold plunge. It feels good, you know it’s good for you, but you can’t help but feel a little off. Yesterday, we arrived upstate at the house after what felt like a full reintroduction to the city; parties, meetings, in-person this, in-person that. I love it, but after a good night’s sleep (actually), my body has readjusted to the slower pace, and I will be wearing the same Carhartts, clogs, and stained t-shirt until we go back.

When I’m upstate, I don’t want to buy anything that is not for the house. But it is, after all, Memorial Day Weekend, and I do adore a sale. Here is a short list of what I’d buy, am buying, or already own and would buy again.

  • My client Sarah sells her hats on Over The Moon. Tons of brands are on sale using the code HAPPYSUMMER. Including my favorite hat!

    my Etsy Pareo
  • Two really great Flore-Flore feeling tops (t-shirt, tank) from Madewell. Size down, I’m wearing an XXS for a tight fit.

    the madewell tops
  • The best sunscreen! I’m going to restock both the oil and lotion.

  • Sardines!!! And so much more. All 20% off.

  • Cadence small capsules are wonderful for travel and daily use. Throw it in your purse, they stay shut, and are so small.

  • RŌZ. I’ve purchased it numerous times. The Hair Serum is a must for summer hair. The salt scrub, shampoo and conditioner, thickening spray, and root lift spray are unmatched.

  • J.Crew is also having a great sale, which I wrote about last week.

This week on SECRETS: The made in NYC waxed canvas tote bag I keep using, another lightweight weekender bag (that I WANT!), the best vintage shorts for summer, vintage black Carhartt jackets with a trick, my vintage camo jacket, a new t-shirt/swim/bra brand, the best summer sandals (under $50 on SALE!), and a web belt.
