I think about this a lot... wingtips.
They show signs of wear—in the way a nice pair of shoes should—plenty of room for more wear but just enough to show you’re committed to a uniform.
My dad's work shoes are, and will always be, Alden Cordovan wingtips. He’s had the same pair since he bought them over 20 years ago. They show signs of wear—in the way a nice pair of shoes should—plenty of room for more wear but just enough to show you’re committed to a uniform. I’ve always loved this shoe, for obvious reasons stated above, and have, since I was tiny, wanted a pair for myself.
I remember the first time I saw this photo. I was in junior high, in love with Pinterest, The Sartorialist, and the sales associates at Sid Mashburn. It was as though someone recreated an outfit from a dream sequence and put it on Pinterest as a poorly cropped low-resolution screenshot of what I can only imagine was once a much more exciting image. I think about this a lot.
There is only one pair of wingtips at the end of the day. If you’re going to do it, you have to do it right.
This short post made me want to become a paid subscriber. In a sea of trendy recommendations that everyone else is giving too, I really appreciate your thoughtful and many years vetted approach to recommendations. I want to buy for life.
Haha! Just curious—which sales associate?
