Last Friday, I had the pleasure of throwing a party for not one but two of my clients—together. My friend, Feras, called me the officiant to the marriage, and it did, in a way, feel as though I’d played my dream of a successful matchmaker and had the honor of sealing the deal. (I’d love to set someone up.) I never set out to work in the restaurant world; I’m not much of a foodie, but I love the joy of hospitality the industry brings. The way people leave feeling tipsy and full, memories and connections formed over a drink and meal. It’s special, something that the world of fashion and interiors can’t accomplish over a few hours. When you sell someone clothing, for instance, they form a relationship with it over time—as the seller, you never really see what the item becomes to them, but with a meal, you get a sense of the moment.

The party was with Brooks Reitz and Eli Zabar, two incredibly talented people in the industry. If you’ve never been to one of their establishments—Eli in NYC (you may recognize his face from the numerous trucks driving around dropping bread) and Brooks in Charleston. They’re all worth a trip, unbiased and all.
